Happy Leap Day

Today is as rare as the olympics, the Presidential election, and 4 times as rare as all of the other holidays that we celebrate. That's right, it's leap day.

Some who may not realize why we have a leap day, well:

From:http://www.timeanddate.com/date/leapyear.html
Using a calendar with 365 days every year would result in a loss of 0.2422 days, or almost six hours per year. After 100 years, this calendar would be more than 24 days ahead of the season (tropical year), which is not desirable or accurate. It is desirable to align the calendar with the seasons and to make any difference as insignificant as possible.

Many famous people were born on this date. Dinah Shore, Jimmy Dorsey, and Jeff "Ja Rule" Atkins. But, none are as familiar as a fictional character who was first brought to light 70 years ago. I am a comic book fan, and without this character, my hobby would not be the same. So, Happy Birthday Superman.
Have a great Leap Day everyone, and though most people will act as if it's just another day, you'll know the truth.

Survivor, Lost and American Idol

Thursday used to be must see TV night. When I was a kid, the Thursday comedy block on NBC ruled the week, not just the night. Now, Thursday is packed with a lot of shows I watch. Some I watch out of habit, others I can't watch because there is just so much else on. American Idol is a show that the whole family can get in on. Survivor is getting a bit stale in my opinion. It is on it's 15th season and that is more than most series can stay on top. I, on the other hand, look forward to Lost more than any other show. I don't even get a chance to watch Smallvile or 30 Rock. Now, the strange part, Thursday is about the only night of the week I watch TV.

Okay, today was a long day. I drove about 50 miles to help another store out and spent an hour and 1/2 in traffic each way. Not a whole lot to say today so how about a thought for the day...
Words are like the wind, they can be a violent as a tornado or gentle like a breeze. Choose them wisely.

Reasons for this...

I guess in this day and age a blog is about the same as a diary. But, strangely enough, we write blogs to share with others. I really don't have secrets from anyone, nor am curious enough to investigate secrets that others may have. So, I will not make crazy comments and exaggerate about my life, my wants or my needs. I guess I'll use this as a sounding board if something tickles my fancy, if I am intrigued or perplexed by things which occur in my life, or even what happens in the world.
We'll start with me, I'm a 37 year old retail manager with an outstanding wife and two beautiful children. I lost my Mom in July of last year, and there are days I just write letters to her, because I feel I can communicate some of the things I never got to say. My Dad, I and my two brothers are all coping well.
So I will attempt to make people who read this laugh, snicker, or smile on most days, just realize, that there will be days, that I am sad on the inside, and I'll share that as well.

I am a comic book/action figure collector. One of my hobbies is painting action figures or customizing them as some refer to it. I am a big sports fan. My favorite teams are the Cowboys, Texans and the Astros. I am not really into basketball, I prefer Soccer.

I graduated from Vidor High School in 1989, and am only touching base with one member of my graduating class on a regular basis. So if there are any former Pirates out there, let me know. I'd love to here from ya'.
That's all I've got for the night....

Write at ya later,
Wayne
